Shiitake Mushroom Grow Kit Instructions

This sawdust block has been myceliated with shiitake mycelium and is ready to produce mushrooms. This can be done outdoors between April – November, or indoors year- round.

Indoors:

1. Gently remove the block from the plastic bag, be cautious not too crack or break your block.

2. We suggest putting your block on a plate or tray, in an area with indirect light and in a place where it can be watered daily.

3. Spray your block once or twice a day with water. Watch for the baby mushroom “pins” to appear on all sides of the block.

4. Mushrooms grow quickly, once you see the “pins” emerging keep a close watch, your shiitake’s will be ready to harvest in 4 -10 after pin formation. Harvest before the caps flatten out and become soggy or soft.

5. To continue fruiting after your first harvest, we suggest letting the block rest and not watering it for 1 week. Following the resting period, soak your block in cold water for 30mins and repeat the daily spraying to bring in your second harvest.

Outdoors:

Follow the above instruction on daily care, make sure to keep it in a shady area and keep an eye out for pests (slugs, chipmunks, squirrels). If pests are prevalent try putting your block underneath a milk crate, fencing material, etc.
